Group decries killings in South-East, sues for peace

The Ohanaeze Ndigbo Council of Elders has condemned the killings within the South-East a part of the nation.

The Chairman of the Council, Chief Emmanuel Iwuanyanwu, who addressed journalists on Thursday in Owerri, Imo State, mentioned the killings are extra pronounced in Enugu and Ebonyi States.

He additionally lamented the killing of harmless folks and destruction of their property within the area, noting that residents of communities close to the Kogi and Benue States borders had fled their properties.

The elder statesman urged the President-Basic of the apex Igbo socio-political group, Ohanaeze Ndigbo, Prof. George Obiozor and the Chairman of South-East Governors’ Discussion board, Dave Umahi to convene a gathering of all leaders within the area in a bid to deal with the issue.

Iwuanyanwu mentioned: “Previously few weeks, many components of Igboland have skilled unprovoked assaults in some components of Enugu and Ebonyi States. The case of Enugu is a transparent invasion of Igboland by unknown folks.

“Ohanaeze Council of Elders views this example as a declaration of hostility towards Igbo. Make no mistake about it, any assault on any Igbo man is an assault on all Igbo.”
